Welcome back to Nutmeg!
From the desk of Sharon E. Dante, Founder/Executive Director

Hello Students, Parents, Volunteers, Alums and Friends,

I just wanted to congratulate all involved in the 2009 Nutcracker Season.  We had four sold out performances in Hartford and excellent performances in Torrington and we were excited to see the growth of all of our dancers, from the littlest angel to the most proficient waltz dancers in the production.  The dancers and choreographers of Nutcracker are to be congratulated on an extraordinary season!  A special thanks to the professionalism of our outstanding Nutmeg Faculty including Victoria Mazzarelli, Eleanor D'Antuono, Tim Melady, Ronald Alexander, Susan Szabo, Joan Kunsch and our special guest artist Thomas Evertz.

While all of you are enjoying your holiday break, the management and faculty are gearing up for your return to Nutmeg on January 10th.  Class will start promptly at 2:00, January 11th with our first guest artist of the year, Natasha Fielding.  We have just signed a contract with the Warner Theatre to perform in the Carole and Ray Neag Performing Arts Center on March 19th and March 20th.  See the announcement about this choreographic weekend in this newsletter.  We will also have open classes for observation so that parents and friends can observe technique classes prior to attending the performances.  You will want to plan your trip to Torrington in advance if possible.  Tickets for the weekend of March 19th and March 20th will go on sale on January 9th at the Warner Theatre Box Office, 860-489-7180.

We will look forward to the return of our students on January 10th and 11th at which time the first of several weeks of guest artists will begin with a syllabus review while the Nutmeg Staff conducts the first semester evaluations.  See more information about our Guest Artists in this newsletter.

Mid-Term evaluations of Nutmeg resident and day students will be conducted from January 11th to January 25th.  This mid-term will be the first of two evaluations done annually.  The second series of evaluations will be conducted at the end of the school year--in May.  The students will be meeting with several faculty members to review their progress in ballet training in the following general areas:  ballet technique, pointe work, partnering, performance techniques and overall attitude and deportment.  There will be discussions highlighting students strengths and suggestive areas for improvement.  These discussions will lay the groundwork for future evaluations and career planning.  These evaluations will be conducted simultaneously with the daily work of regular faculty and guest artists during the first two weeks following the holiday break.  Both students and parents will receive copies of these evaluations.  The principal will conduct all follow up discussions by appointment. Please feel free to contact Mr. Alexander at anytime regarding these discussions.
