Year-Round Residency Program

The Professional 2 and 4 year Program (Grades 9-12)
The Professional Program is for the serious minded dance student grades 9 through 12.  Most students who attend Nutmeg and participate in the Professional Program are already familiar with the basic structure of classical ballet from their childhood schools. An intense daily training program, Nutmeg’s program focuses on the methodical training in the fundamentals of technique and classical ballet theory classes.
Talented high school freshmen, sophomores (4 year Program) and/or juniors and seniors (2 year program) complete their secondary education through our in-house academics program, the Nutmeg CAP (Classical Academic Program). Those students not from the immediate area take up residency in Nutmeg's dormitory or in one of Nutmeg’s historical homes in Torrington, Connecticut.
Students are either eligible for a certificate of completion after 2 years as juniors and seniors or for a certificate of completion after 4 years.  Since Nutmeg measures its courses based on hours, a special program of evaluation has been designed to offer each student a transcript with grades in addition to their Academic completion.

The Post-High School Program 2 year program (Grades 12-14)
This growing Post-High School Program is an acceleration of the work of the Vaganova and Graham syllabi. It is designed for the dancer who seeks additional technical and performance training in a performance-oriented student company prior to auditioning for a professional position, and/or for a student who may want to dance more intensively and then proceed onto University or College.
Students who graduate from the 2 year Residency Program are also eligible to continue in the Post-High School Program if deemed appropriate. Or, students coming to Nutmeg in their Senior Year of High School may stay one or two years more in the Post High School Program. A student need not attend our high school residency program in order to attend the post high school program.
